At its most recent general meeting, the Agbar Foundation Board of Trustees agreed to work with projects by third sector organisations. The activities report was also presented at the meeting.
The report highlights the work done with local councils and the response with regard to aid for refugees, as agreed on at the last Aigües de Barcelona General Meeting of Shareholders on 29 June. In this context, Sant Boi de Llobregat Town Council presented a proposal to provide support for refugee accommodation.
The decision was also made to work with various third sector organisations on accompaniment, orientation and study support programmes for young people in education at risk of dropping out, offer tools for labour integration to people at risk of exclusion and cooperate with projects to reduce food and resource waste.
One of its key projects in this area is support for the removal of architectural barriers in the bathrooms of homes of people with reduced mobility. The end goal of this project is to guarantee the safe personal hygiene of people with reduced mobility who are economically vulnerable. The experience will be rolled out by eight members of the motor group of towns committed to social policies for people with disabilities in the Barcelona metropolitan area: Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Badalona, Sant Just Desvern, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Feliu de Llobregat and Cornellà.
It also continued to monitor the ‘The Voices of Water’ event, to be held on 23 November at the Museu Agbar de les Aigües, which focuses on two central themes: poverty and quality employment. The aim of the event is to seek synergies and incentivise commitments with a variety of guest NGOs at the conference.
Following the meeting of the Board of Trustees, a further meeting was held with the Aigües de Barcelona Board of Directors to discuss joint projects between the Agbar Foundation and the company and to establish synergies with regard to their social projects and commitments to the public in different towns in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
