The Agbar Foundation’s Young Talents programme and the CONFAVC offer scholarships to 12 young people to take university degrees in Barcelona

Today, the Agbar Foundation and the Confederation of Neighbourhood Associations of Catalonia (CONFAVC) presented the Young Talents scholarship programme for the academic year 2018-19. Its aim is to support the education of young people with talent but with limited financial resources in the sphere of water and the environment. The scholarships, to which the Agbar Foundation will allocate €42,000, are specialized in Agbar’s strategic fields: digital transformation, innovation, sustainability and social development.

Five young people have joined the programme this new academic year 2018-2019: Oumayya, Zepi, Jorge Alberto, Patvakan and Oumaima, in addition to the seven undergraduate students who are already enjoying this scholarship, five from last year and a further two from the academic year 2016-17. They are Anggi, Pol, Houda, Christian, Inés, Sergi and Oussama, who are already making their dream come true: studying for a university degree which will allow them to develop their skills and their knowledge. These seven young people from Baix Llobregat, thanks to their talent and to their commitment, are the first batch of scholarship-holders on the DISS Young Talents Scholarship Programme, promoted by the CONFAVC and the Agbar Foundation.

The event was attended by the relatives and friends of the students, who were accompanied by the CONFAVC Director, Jordi Giró, the Agbar Foundation’s Director, Eduard Pallejà, and Agbar’s Executive Chairman, Angel Simón.

They are all taking degrees related to development, innovation, society or sustainability: from Telecommunications Engineering to Physics, and including Psychology, Pharmacy and Biological Systems Engineering.

“Thanks to the Young Talents Programme, these boys and girls are now closer to making the dream that they have had since they were little come true and to making great accomplishments when they join the labour market”, indicated the Agbar Foundation’s Director, Eduard Pallejà.

The Agbar Foundation awarded the scholarships starting from the candidatures that the CONFAVC proposed in accordance with the Current Classroom neighbourhood programme, which works with Barcelona metropolitan area secondary schools. The young people who win the scholarships obtain the full payment of registration and up to €1,500 for associated personal expenses.
